The Limpopo Pig Study Group

The Limpopo Pig Study Group meets four times a year, usually during March, June, August and November, at Tibani Lodge outside Potgietersrus. The group has approximately 25 members. The study group's annual general meeting usually takes place in October. It has the following aims:

  • To act as mouthpiece for pig producers in the Limpopo Province.
  • To expose members to the latest technology and developments in the industry by contributions of guest speakers and sponsors.
  • To share ideas and knowledge.

At the meetings, feedback is given of recent SAPPO and Premier Pork Producers meetings, and domestic matters are discussed. The meetings are usually concluded with a contribution of a guest speaker. The proceedings are concluded with a braai.

The Limpopo Pig Study Group gives three awards at its year end function in November:

  • The most productive piggery;
  • Runner-up for the most productive piggery award; and
  • The piggery which made the most progress since the previous year.

An independent party collects and processes the data of the participating farms.

The study group is also very involved with pork promotions in Pietersburg and Potgietersrus.
