Premier Pork Producers

Premier Pork Producers is the largest provincial pork association in the country. It represents close to 60% of the sows in the country which is compiled as follows:

  • Gauteng 13 400 sows
  • Limpopo 11600 sows
  • Mpumalanga 11 700 sows
  • Northwest 18 300 sows

The objectives of the association are:

  • to determine and comply with the priorities and requirements of its members on grassroots level.
  • to promote, support or oppose legislation or other measures which affect the pig industry.
  • to encourage and assist with the formation of bodies throughout the Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Northwest and Limpopo Province, which are prepared to advance the objectives of the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation (SAPPO) through the medium of the PPP.
  • to co-operate as closely as possible with SAPPO to the advantage of the pig industry and, as such, endorse the relevant objectives of SAPPO.
  • to facilitate and enhance a spirit of co-operation and unity among producers, marketers, manufacturers, traders and consumers of pork.
  • to collect funds within the powers of the constitution with a view to realise, advance, maintain and implement the objectives of the pork producers.
  • to serve as the mouthpiece of pork producers in the northern provinces.

The activities of the association are controlled by a board which is appointed at the association's annual general meeting. This usually takes place in August each year. The annual general meeting is the association's highest authority.

The current chairman is Peter Mockford (photo top). The manager of the PPP is Hoffies Hoffman (photo middle). Guzette Strydom (photo bottom) is the personal assistant to Jacobus Hoffman.

To direct its workings the association identified priority objectives and these include:

  • finance
  • training
  • quality assurance
  • BEE
  • information and communication
  • promotion activities
  • various ad hoc-activities
  • liaison with the government, both on provincial and national level
